Communicating through text messages is not very effective when it comes to expressing one's feelings. Even if you insert emoticons or sounds, your text message will not relay your anger or happiness like a voice message. With JDVoiceMail, you can record your voice and send the recording to your friends via email. The application also allows you to save contact details, customize a default mail message, configure your audio devices and more.

JDVoiceMail is compatible with most Windows versions, from Win 95 to Win 7. It is offered free of charge and it can be downloaded and installed in less than a minute. Due to its modest hardware requirements, the application works even on older machines, but you will need a mail client, like MS Outlook.

The compact user interface displays three main options, for recording, playing and stopping. While recording, the application will display the elapsed time, as well as the recording's size. You can play your recording at any time, to make sure it sounds right, after which you can use a series of secondary options, on the same interface, to send, save or delete the recording.

Recordings can be saved on the hard drive, in MP3 or WAV format. If you decide to send a recording, JDVoiceMail will create a new message, in your default mail client and it will attach the audio file automatically. You can bring up the Windows Volume Mixer and the sound configurations windows, with different buttons, which are located in the lower right corner of the user interface. Furthermore, the application allows you to select different compressor codecs.

Contacts can be saved in a photo address book, on a different window. All you have to do is type in your friend's name and email address and select a picture from a local folder if you have one. It is also possible to import contacts from a mail client.

Pros

You can record your voice and send the recording immediately, with your preferred mail client. The application allows you to save your recordings in MP3 or WAV format. It is also possible to select different codecs and reconfigure the plugged in audio devices.

Cons

You need to have a mail client on your computer, if you wish to send your recordings. While using JDVoiceMail, you won't have to type your mail messages again. You can simply speak your mind and send a recording right away.
